Abstract

The article is devoted to the study of professionally important qualities of a waiter. The problems presented in the article have an important practical significance, as they reflect one of the urgent tasks of restaurant business owners who face with the problem of personnel ef-
fectiveness in the position of a waiter. The study tested some psychodiagnostic techniques, which, on the one hand, correspond to the formed model of professionall qualities of a waiter, and on the other hand, meet modern criteria of professional effectiveness of a waiter. The fol-
lowing methods were used in the study: «Thinking profile» (V.A. Ganzen, K.B. Malyshev, L.V. Oginets), «Memorization of 10 words» (A.R. Luria), «Aizenka Personality Questionnaire, EPI (adaptation by A.G. Shmelev), «Assessment of the level of sociability» (V.F. Ryakhovsky),
«Questionnaire of volitional self-control» (A.G. Zverkov, E.V. Eidman), «Thomas-Kilmann Test» (adapted by S.V. Kadashin and N.V. Shang'in). The respondents (the waiters of the restaurant in Vladivostok) were divided into two groups (effective and ineffective) according to the
internal corporate four-rating system for evaluating the results of waiters' activities. According to the results of the study, the following psychological features of effective waiters were identified: a high level of imaginative thinking, sociability, strong-willed self-regulation, persever-
ance and emotional stability, as well as using the strategy of cooperation but minimizing rivalry and avoidance strategies in conflict situations with customers. Psychodiagnostic techniques selected according to the model of professionally important qualities can be used in the profes-
sional selection process. The obtained research results can be used in the process of training waiters.
